Misery Loves Company

And boy do we have plenty of company.
When we started this whole gluten and processed sugar free family diet we had no idea how hard it was going to be . . . . . . okay, we kind of knew how hard. We were prepared to say goodbye to pasta, cookies, corn chips, pasta, canned fruit, chocolate, pasta, bread, ice cream, and did I mention PASTA!!!!!!!
(Just for a heads up, it is really, really, really hard to find things that lack both gluten and sugar.) We were eating salad and had decided to use a basic balsamic vinegar to put on it because mayonnaise has sugar in it and so we couldn't make our usual Ranch dressing. - Did you know Balsamic vinegar has sugar in it?  Yep, I didn't, you don't think of sugar when you think of vinegar. I now understand why I have heard a saying that roughly means the only reason people eat salad is for what is on it, not for the salad's sake.
We are starting our second week and are doing pretty good. Despite my first visions of nothing but carrots, lettuce, and popcorn . . . . .

. . . . . we have been eating lovely grilled onions and potatoes, chicken and steak, salad, (the first couple of days we were eating a lot of eggs:), and Irish Rose has found a couple good gluten free bread recipes, as well as a cake recipe. The only complaint I have at the moment is that the bread seems to dry out pretty quickly and crumbles very easily. Any suggestions?
I think the whole experiment is rather interesting, even with the fact that we are all craving different things (mostly sugar), and the fact that I'm starving most of the time and can't figure out why, but I don't know how long we can last.  I won't be very surprised at all if I find Chickadee upstairs one day, chewing on magazine pictures of forbidden food - I'll know she's completely lost it.
Having established that fact I'll make her scoot over and join her.
